Whereever (Jesus) went, he healed people of every sort of disease and illness. He felt great pity for the crowds that came, because their problems were so great and they didn't know where to go for help. They were like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, "The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send out more workers to the fields." Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus had great compassion for the people everywhere for all of their issues. It is interesting to me that Jesus asked the disciples to pray for more workers. Why would he do that? I mean He is Lord, He could have taken care of that mess by just speaking it? Why did He bother to engage and ask others to do what he could have done himself? Any answers or thoughts?
My guess is that He wanted us to get involved. To be His hands and feet here on Earth. Do we recognize these issues with the people that we know? Do we feel it is our obligation to answer this call to pray for more workers and eventually BE one of those workers? I challenge you this day to ask the Lord to send more workers, and He may respond that answer to prayer is you!
Lord, I am so grateful that you heal every disease and illness that afflicts people. I pray that you will send laborers who will bring your healing and transforming power to the lives of people who don't know you. And while I am praying for workers, please make me willing by your Spirit to join you in the harvest fields. You and you alone are Lord of the harvest. Let you kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven! In Jesus' name we pray Amen
